Week of Jan. 18 – 24: New Moon in Capricorn & Aquarius Season
This week kicks off with a groundbreaking New Moon in Capricorn on Sunday. This is the first new lunar cycle of the year, pushing you into a new cycle of ambition, emotional responsibility, and dissolving the excuses you've made for why you are stuck and not moving forward in certain aspects of your life. This Capricorn New Moon is giving it to you straight with no chaser. Aquarius season begins on Monday, and by Friday, we are experiencing a massive stellium (a whopping five planets, including Pluto) in Aquarius, ruling over innovation, revolution, and rebellion against the status quo.
Weekly Astrology Forecast
Sunday, January 18: New Moon in Capricorn
The New Moon in Capricorn takes place at 28° Capricorn at 2:51 p.m. EST. A New Moon is the darkest phase of the lunar cycle and occurs when the Sun and Moon form an exact conjunction in the same sign. In astrology, a conjunction means two planets or points are aligned at, or near, the same zodiacal degree. For this newsletter, I use a 10° orb, so I consider conjunction energy active when bodies are within ten degrees.
Capricorn is a Saturn-ruled cardinal sign associated with initiation, discipline, leadership, responsibility, and long-term achievement. As the first New Moon of the year, this lunation sets a tone for goal-setting, ambition, and strategic commitment, planting seeds that culminate at the Capricorn Full Moon on June 29. This is not about instant results. It is about choosing what you are willing to build steadily and deciding what standards you will live by as you do so.
New Moon events tend to unfold over the weeks that follow, and you may feel this portal working through to the Full Moon in Leo on February 1. This Capricorn New Moon is activated by a tight Mercury–Mars conjunction close to the lunation, sharpening urgency around decisions, conversations, and next steps. Words have force now, and plans want action, so be precise with commitments and avoid reacting under pressure.
A supportive trine to Uranus retrograde in Taurus favors practical breakthroughs, better systems, and future-minded choices that modernize your approach. At the same time, a square to Chiron in Aries can expose tender confidence wounds, especially around visibility, leadership, and the fear of getting it wrong. Let discomfort clarify what needs strengthening, not what needs abandoning. Overall, this is a powerful window for new contracts, forward-moving conversations, and agreements, especially when your yes is rooted in long-term sustainability rather than a quick fix.
Monday, January 19: Sun enters Aquarius (Aquarius Season starts)
The next day after the New Moon, Aquarius season begins with the sun moving into the fixed air sign of revolution, group consciousness, humanitarianism, and breaking the status quo. The sun is joining up with the Moon, Venus, and Pluto on this day, concentrating a lot of power in Aquarius. As a result, we will start to see even more eruptions of protests and rejection of fascist regimes, especially by women due to Venus' influence. This is setting the stage for a reactive and revolutionary Aquarius season as we move into the month of February.
Tuesday, January 20: Mercury enters Aquarius
Mercury, the god of communication and knowledge, moves into Aquarius and joins the rebellious celestial party already underway. Speaking truth to power in your own individual life and in society is a major theme of this Mercury transit and stellium as a whole. In your own individual life, look at where you
Friday, January 23: Mars enters Aquarius
As we round out the week, Mars, the planet of conflict, aggression, war, and men, moves into Aquarius as well. We have a stellium of five planets in Aquarius! A stellium is when three or more planets are in a zodiac sign, and it places hyperemphasis on the themes of that particular sign. As a result, we may see more global violence, especially from male leaders, and more war and militarization escalating. In your own lives, you'll feel motivated to transform and change old systems and habits that are no longer aligned. It's time for a revolution of self and also the collective society this Aquarius season.
Tarot Card of the Week

This week, I intuitively tapped into the classic Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot deck by Pamela Colman-Smith. This is a foundational deck that shaped the visual language of most of modern Tarot.
The card of the week is the Six of Cups, a card of care, innocence, and remembering what it means to be human with one another. At its core, this card speaks to nourishment that is freely offered, community care that does not require performance, and the kind of kindness that restores faith when the world feels brutal. In a week where so much is moving into Aquarius, the sign of humanitarianism and collective care, the Six of Cups becomes a reminder that the future is built through small, consistent acts of mutual support. It asks: where can you show up for your people, where can you soften toward those who are vulnerable, and where can you let yourself receive help without shame?
In the context of ongoing atrocities in the United States and globally, and collective grief, the Six of Cups is not a call to spiritual bypassing or nostalgia. It is a call to protect what is tender and worth saving. Support the collective in a way that is real and within your capacity: check on a friend, donate what you can, share resources, provide mutual aid, amplify voices that need protection, feed someone, offer transportation, give your attention where it matters. This card reminds us that care is not small. Care is resistance. Care is how we keep each other alive.
